How promotion works

The Typhon roster has an active points system. It records approved activities and shows your progress towards the points and time-in-rank requirements for your next rank. The live rank chart lists rank requirements and approval authorities; Ways to Earn Points lists the activities and their recorded values and limits.

Meeting the displayed requirements does not promote you automatically. You need to submit a promotion application through the roster for review by the appropriate approving authority. If you are unsure which rank track applies to you, speak with your Department Chief before applying.

Check, claim and apply

  1. Check Promotion Progress to see how far along you are in points and time in rank, and to apply for your promotion.
  2. Review My Points History to see the points you have gained and check what has been recorded.
  3. Claim Activity Points for eligible activities that have not yet been recorded. Use the points list to check values and frequency or cap rules.

If an activity is missing or your progress does not look right, check your points history first, then ask your Department Chief or Command Staff for help. A claim is not the same thing as an approved award of points.

Promotion checklist: Check your progress, review your recorded points, claim any missing eligible activities, and submit your application through Promotion Progress when you are ready. The rank chart shows who must approve the promotion.

Recognition is separate

Rank points, promotions and awards serve different purposes. The Recognition chapter lists awards recorded in the roster; receiving an award does not by itself add points or grant a promotion unless a separate approved rule provides for it.
