USS Typhon / Officers' Manual

Chapter 10 · COMMAND

Command Structure

Your Department Chief is usually the first person to ask for help. Other Chiefs and Command Staff are there when you need them.

USS Typhon emblem

The USS Typhon's Command Staff includes the Commanding Officer, Executive Officer and Second Officer. Department Chiefs lead their teams and help crewmembers with day-to-day chapter matters. For a routine question, please start with your Chief. You can approach another member of the leadership team when the situation calls for it.

Who currently holds these roles? See Current Leadership for the Command Staff, Department Chiefs, Deputy Chiefs and Shuttle Commanders, with links to their roster profiles. The directory draws current appointments from the roster.

Department Chiefs

Your Chief can help with department activities, roster questions, ideas and concerns. If your Chief is not the right person for a particular matter, you can speak with another Chief or approach the Second Officer, Executive Officer or Commanding Officer. Read Chiefs' Duties for more about department leadership responsibilities.

Second Officer

The Second Officer (SO) helps coordinate chapter work and supports the Chiefs. The SO is another person you can speak with if your Chief cannot help or you would rather speak with Command Staff.

Executive Officer

The Executive Officer (XO) helps run the chapter alongside the CO. The XO works with Chiefs on reports, plans and matters that need Command Staff attention. You can speak with the XO directly when you need to.

Commanding Officer

The Commanding Officer (CO) leads the Typhon and works with the XO, SO and Chiefs on major chapter matters. The CO can help resolve matters that need a ship-wide decision or support beyond a department. For routine questions, your Chief or another member of Command Staff is usually a good starting point. You can speak with the CO directly when the situation warrants it.

Regional Coordinator

The Regional Coordinator (RC) represents Region 11, which includes Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, within STARFLEET International. When an issue needs attention beyond the chapter, the RC can help take it to the appropriate Fleet-level contact. The Typhon's CO currently also serves as RC, and the Typhon is the region's flagship. The RC serves a two-year term and may be re-elected, so the person holding the role may change over time.

If the usual contact is not appropriate for a particular concern, speak with a Chief you trust, the SO or the XO. They can help you identify a suitable STARFLEET contact outside the chapter. You may also use an appropriate Fleet channel directly. You do not have to bring a concern to the person it is about, regardless of the roles they hold.

STARFLEET Inspector General

STARFLEET International has an Office of the Inspector General. This is a Fleet-level avenue for matters within its remit, not the first stop for an everyday chapter disagreement. If you are unsure whether it is the right contact, ask a trusted member of Command Staff for help or consult the office's published guidance.

You do not need to be an SFI member to raise a concern with Typhon's Chiefs or Command Staff. Fleet-level processes may have different eligibility requirements. For an immediate safety issue or a possible crime, contact venue staff or the relevant authorities rather than waiting for a chapter or STARFLEET review.

Who can you talk to? Start with your Chief for routine matters. You may also speak with another Chief, the SO, XO or CO. The RC can help bring matters beyond the chapter to Fleet. If your concern involves someone in the usual chain, choose another trusted contact or an appropriate Fleet channel. For immediate danger, seek help from venue staff or emergency services.
