Find something you enjoy
Typhon activities bring crew together in person and online. You might join a chapter meeting, visit a science fiction convention, take part in a watch party or gaming session, contribute to a creative project, or help with a charity event. Some crew enjoy organising. Others prefer to attend, lend a hand behind the scenes or simply keep in touch. Each is a welcome way to participate.
Events and projects depend on crew interest and availability. Check current chapter announcements for upcoming activities, and ask your Department Chief or Command Staff if you are unsure how to get involved.
For convention clothing and group-photo arrangements, see Uniforms. You do not need the Typhon's preferred uniform to take part in ordinary chapter activities.
Suggest or organise an activity
Have an idea for a build day, group outing, online gathering or other crew project? Bring it to your Department Chief or Command Staff. You do not need a finished plan to start the conversation. For a chapter activity, work together on practical details such as timing, venue or online access, costs, accessibility and safety before announcing it on behalf of the Typhon.
Local shuttlecraft groups
Typhon's shuttlecraft groups help crew connect and organise activities closer to home. If you are near Lithgow or Bathurst, or Wollongong or Nowra, ask Command Staff to put you in touch with the relevant Shuttle Commander. They can tell you about local plans and help you find a way to join in. You remain part of the wider Typhon crew when you take part in a shuttlecraft activity.
You do not need to live near an existing shuttlecraft group to suggest a local gathering. Speak with Command Staff if you have an idea for an activity in your area, whether it is a small catch-up, an outing or something you would like to organise with other crew. A Shuttle Commander can help coordinate local plans with the wider chapter. Check with Command Staff before announcing an activity on behalf of the Typhon.
If there is enough interest in an area outside Sydney that does not yet have a shuttlecraft group, such as Newcastle or the surrounding coastal area, speak with Command Staff about the possibility of establishing one. You do not need a shuttlecraft group in place to start connecting with nearby crew or suggesting activities. Command Staff can discuss what would be needed and how a new group would fit within the wider Typhon chapter. Please do not announce a new Typhon shuttlecraft group before those arrangements are agreed.
Shuttlecraft groups established before the chapter became the USS Typhon may keep their existing names. New groups will be named for children of Typhon from Greek mythology. Possible names include Hydra, Cerberus, Chimera, Sphinx, Scylla, Gorgon, Orthrus, Ladon and Phaea. Discuss a proposed name with Command Staff before announcing a new shuttlecraft group.
Participation and promotion points
Taking part in an eligible activity can earn points towards your next promotion. Suggesting a project, hosting an event or taking the lead can also earn points. Organising an activity is often worth more than attending one. For example, the roster lists 5 points for participating in an in-person chapter event, 10 for leading an in-person club event, and 15 for hosting a chapter event at home. A project proposal is worth 5 points, subject to its once-per-month limit. See Ways to Earn Points for the exact activity names, requirements, values and caps.
Use Claim Activity Points to submit an eligible activity. Check My Points History to see what has been recorded. The Promotion Progress page shows your points and time in rank, and lets you apply for promotion. Earning points does not automatically grant a promotion.
Make room for everyone
Work, family, health, distance and finances affect what each person can do. Where practical, provide a way to join online, share a recap with people who missed an event, or offer a behind-the-scenes task that can be done at another time. Nobody should feel pressured to attend every activity or explain why they cannot take part.
